Stark beauty

Winter has a stark beauty. Gregg and I just returned from our first time on the North Shore of Lake Superior during the middle of winter. We were intrigued by the ice buildup along the shoreline: fascinated by both the sounds of frozen bits pushed onto rock and ice, and by the cold blue frozen formations.
"Beauty is God’s daughter: that I’m sure of. The only way we can divine the appearance of God’s face is by looking at beautiful things." – Francis of Assisi

"The artist brings something into the world that didn't exist before, and he does it without destroying something else."

-John Updike, writer (1932-2009)
